Midari Ikishima is a supporting character in Kakegurui and also the main protagonist of the spin-off series Kakegurui Midari. She is a second-year high school student at Hyakkaou Private Academy, a member of the Student Council, and chairwoman of the Beautification Committee.Midari exhibits sadistic, masochistic, and suicidal tendencies. Prior to the events of Kakegurui, she gouged out her own eye to repay a debt to the Student Council President, Kirari Momobami.
She always has a revolver with her and occasionally plays Russian Roulette, her favorite game, by herself. She is shown to be very persistent, overbearing, and intimidating, with most students generally regarding her as strange. She is also very impulsive and has little self-restraint, causing her to look more at immediate satisfaction than any long-term consequences. Due to the fact that no one wants to play sadistic games with her, she is desperate to gamble with anyone. However, Midari is also frequently shown as being very insightful into people's true natures.
Growing up, she demonstrated considerable intelligence and athleticism; despite winning several awards for these achievements, she felt empty.
The name Midari (妄) means "reckless", "chaotic". Her surname Ikishima (生志摩) is derived from "Iki Shini" (生き死に, "life or death"). Midari is the only character who has major appearances in every medium of Kakegurui.
