BOISE, Idaho (CBS 2) — Some Idaho Adventures beat the elements by heading indoors.
For this week’s adventure, we catch up with some of the speed demons who are setting records at Fast Lane Indoor Kart Racing in Boise.
Now, this isn't your ordinary go-kart race track, at Fast Lane in Boise, it’s all about speed.
High-performance karts can race up to 40 mph on the indoor track.
"The track is great and it's really about the only place in Idaho where you can get this type of racing, especially for how cheap it is, you don't have to buy a track car or travel to a circuit you can just drop in," said Kart Racer Travis Browndyke.
Some drivers take each race seriously, others are just here to have fun.
One group we ran into has been racing at fast lane every week for nearly a decade.
"Somebody got us into it, got it going on it, and then we come, we have a little bit of rivalry, couple of us are on the fast board, one of us isn't, so we give him a good time about that, it's just really fun,” said Racer Tom Bruck, “We have been coming out since about 2011-ish, and we come out every Friday, we race and then we go to lunch and have a good time."
Racing not only to win, but to get the fastest time.
Some of the guys in Tom's group have even made it on the 'Fast Board' at Fast Lane.
"You have to be young and skinny to be on the board in number one space, we are older and not so skinny, so that's how we are not the fastest on the board, but, listen, we are on the board and some of these guys are 70 years old and they're faster than some of these young punks and they feel pretty special about it," said Bruck.
Tom also says that your best lap times are achieved when the conditions are just right. Cold mornings allow the tires to slip on the cold track, as opposed to warmer temperatures give the tires more grip, giving you better performance overall.
