Eagle police warn residents of repeat break-ins targeting homes adjacent to open spaces

Eagle Police report that a string of at least three break-ins that appear to be related have been targeting homes with large open spaces behind them.

At least three different homes in the area of Eagle and West Boise have been broken into through the back door. Police believe the suspects are surveilling the homes from across wide open green spaces to the rear of the home and waiting for owners to leave.

The thieves then break in through the rear of the home, steal items from the house, and make a quick getaway into the dark.

Police say this same MO was used around this time last year and could be part of a group committing similar crimes popping up across the country. Police say the thieves are apparently avoiding homes without alarm systems and without dogs.

Eagle Police say that people whose homes back up to wide open spaces should consider installing bright motion lights, cameras, and an alarm system that detects for broken glass as the thieves have broken through at least one glass patio door to gain access to the home.
