She has been threading the boards in New York over the past month with her critically-acclaimed stage show Girls & Boys.

Yet, Carey Mulligan, 33, was pictured leaving The Late Show with Stephen Colbert supporting an eye-catching ankle brace on Monday.

The British actress carefully left the Ed Sullivan Theatre wearing the clunky foot support after suffering a minor injury onstage during her play's previews in June.

And Carey didn't let her injury hinder her fashion choices as she complemented the brace with an ankle-length maxi dress which highlighted her narrow midriff with a black skinny waist belt.

Although one foot remained in a brace, the Atonement star worked a vibrant yellow stiletto on her opposite foot for the television appearance.

Taking it all in her stride, she swept her blonde locks into a chic chignon and worked a glamorous beauty look which accentuated her flawless complexion.

Carey's appearance comes as her play was forced to cancel a number of shows in June after she sustained a minor injury during an early preview of Girls & Boys.

The June 15, June 16 evening, and June 18 performances of Dennis Kelly's monologue were cancelled due to her injury. MailOnline have contacted Carey Mulligan's rep for comment.

The actress was lauded for putting on a 'phenomenal' performance in Girls & Boys when it debuted in London's West End back in February.

But she later revealed that she endured panic attacks during rehearsals for the production before the show debuted, as she deeply feared 'being on my own on stage'.

Carey told London's Evening Standard : 'I had a really hard time coming into the show in London. About four weeks into rehearsal, right before previews, I just started having sort of panic attacks and things because I just got very bad anxiety around, I suppose, being on my own on stage.'

To help combat her anxiety for the show, which transferred from the English capital's Royal Court to New York City last month, the screen star received specially-created motivational drawings for her dressing room from artist pal Charlie Mackesy.

'[Mackesy] was amazing,' she said of her friend. 'He does these beautiful drawings of angels and things and so he just sat down one day and did all these sketches, incredible pictures of a person on stage who’s meant to be me… then behind there’s an angel leaning down pushing me on the shoulder, sort of pushing me forward.'

Carey's esteemed show has been transferred from the Royal Court Theatre - where she began her stage career as a young actress - to the Minetta Lane Theater in New York.

In the performance, Carey charts the breakdown of a relationship, from a chance meeting on an EasyJet flight to his absence and her discontent.

They have two children Leanne and Danny but in the show Carey is the only presence onstage.

During the London shows, it was reported that the marriage takes a 'disturbing turn' 'with disastrous consequences' yet the breakdown is only portrayed from the side of Carey's unnamed character.

Variety reported of the London shows: 'In Girls & Boys, Mulligan gives a phenomenal, unpredictable solo performance — a proper feat of acting — as a woman so self-assured she might just smash the patriarchy apart single-handedly.'

The New York show premiered on June 20 and the play is also available via Audible, following the performance.
